Job Vacancy – Urban Planning Engineer
Al Marsad Al Makani for Engineering Consultancy, based in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, is seeking a highly qualified Urban Planning Engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience and proven expertise in preparing and designing urban development plans and master plans, as well as coordinating with municipal authorities throughout Saudi Arabia.
First: Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop architectural and urban planning concepts (Concept Design) for urban development projects and planning schemes.
- Prepare and design master plans, land-use plans, land subdivision layouts, and the distribution of public services and facilities.
- Prepare planning studies and urban designs in accordance with applicable Saudi regulations, requirements, and codes.
- Develop detailed plans, calculate land areas, densities, and planning ratios, and review road, parking, and infrastructure requirements.
- Coordinate with various engineering disciplines to ensure the integration of urban plans with infrastructure networks.
- Submit plans to municipal authorities and relevant government entities, address technical comments and revisions, and follow up until final approval is obtained.
Second: Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, Urban Design, or a related discipline with proven relevant experience.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in urban planning and design, including a minimum of 3 years working on projects within Saudi Arabia.
- Proven experience preparing and developing urban plans and master plans, from the initial design concept through to final approved drawings.
- Advanced knowledge of Saudi municipal requirements, land subdivision regulations, land-use policies, and urban planning controls.
- Demonstrated experience submitting plans to municipal authorities, following up on approvals, and addressing technical comments.
- Valid professional accreditation from the Saudi Council of Engineers in a discipline relevant to the position.
- Ability to independently manage design assignments and prepare professional technical reports and presentations.
Third: Software and Technical Skills
Proficiency in the following software, according to project requirements:
- AutoCAD / Civil 3D: Preparing engineering and planning drawings and working with surveying data.
- ArcGIS / ArcGIS Pro / QGIS: Spatial analysis and preparation of land-use and public service maps.
- SketchUp / Revit: 3D modeling and development of design concepts.
- Adobe Photoshop / Illustrator / InDesign: Preparing professional planning boards and presentations.
- Microsoft Office / PowerPoint: Preparing technical reports and presentations.
Experience with advanced 3D urban visualization tools, such as ArcGIS CityEngine, is preferred.
Fourth: Essential Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a professional Portfolio containing at least 10 previous projects in urban planning and design, including the following information:
- Project name, location, area, and planning category.
- Samples of design concepts, master plans, and final planning drawings.
- The applicant’s actual role and responsibilities in each project.
- Project approval status and the approving authority, supported by approval documentation for approved projects. The portfolio must include projects previously approved by municipal authorities in Saudi Arabia.
