Hydrogeological and Geophysical Study for Groundwater Exploration and Assessment and Identification of Production Well Locations – Arar Airport Development Project
- Project TypeHydrogeological and Geophysical Study for Groundwater Exploration and Assessment and Identification of Production Well Drilling Locations
- LocationArar Airport – Eastern Province – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- ContractorAl Rubu’ Al Aali Contracting
- ConsultantHILL International.
- Main ContractorAl Marsad Al Makani for Engineering Consultancy
- Project DescriptionA specialized project to conduct a hydrogeological and geophysical study aimed at exploring and assessing groundwater potential and identifying the most suitable locations for drilling production wells as part of the Arar Airport Development Project in the Eastern Province. The scope included reviewing and analyzing available data, including aerial imagery, geological maps, groundwater geophysical data, previous studies, Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) surveys, and earlier TEM measurements to identify promising groundwater zones. Surface geophysical surveys were then conducted using Time Domain Electromagnetic (TEM) techniques to investigate geological formations and potential groundwater-bearing aquifers. The results were interpreted to develop a subsurface model, determine sediment thickness and the extent and characteristics of water-bearing formations, and assess groundwater potential in terms of storage capacity, resource sustainability, recharge sources, and expected production rates.
