Digital documentation and engineering coding for industrial plants and complex facilities.
Pipe Coding and Color-Identification System for Almarai Factory in Al-Kharj

This project represents an advanced model for technical provisioning and engineering coding for major facilities and plants in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (Almarai Factory in Al-Kharj). Executed for Almarai Company and under the supervision of Al-Dafe Trading and Contracting Company, the scope included designing visual identification mechanisms and coordinating color-coding systems for piping networks and general utility lines. This helps enhance blueprint readiness, optimize field execution and safe operations for the factory, and support subsequent 3D laser scanning accuracy while safeguarding production lines.
The project focused on managing fluid and gas segregation and engineering differentiation requirements within the pipes from a comprehensive technical perspective. This included implementing an international Industrial Color Coding System across massive piping networks (such as ammonia lines, fire water, and hot water supply/return lines) and installing industrial-grade identification labels resilient to harsh environments. Furthermore, it involved advanced field coordination with the plant's technical crews to precisely identify contents, utilizing specialized cranes and heavy equipment for safe access to high-elevation overhead piping. This was combined with civil, architectural, and coordination works to deliver an industrial facility that fully complies with building codes, occupational safety standards, and the complex's general aesthetics.
Digital documentation and engineering coding for industrial plants and complex facilities..
Scope of Work
- Implementing Approved Coding & Color-Identification SystemsIntegrating and applying internationally approved colored labels and identification bands onto pipes and mechanical corridors prior to initiating surveying and digital scanning operations.
- Qualitative Classification of Industrial Materials and FluidsAllocating specific, standardized colors (such as yellow for ammonia and corrosive gases, and red for fire suppression systems) based on the engineering nature of the materials flowing through the pipes.
- Field Operations Management and High-Elevation AccessPlanning and executing installation works at elevated and critical zones within the factory using specialized cranes while applying the highest occupational safety standards for working at heights.
Al Marsad Al Makani provided engineering design, quality control, topographic surveying, geospatial documentation, and technical coding services across multiple industrial and vital facilities. This was achieved by coordinating and monitoring surveying and color-identification phases and aligning them with approved building code requirements and relevant stakeholders. The scope of work also included developing executable site solutions, cross-referencing extracted spatial and surveying data with architectural and structural blueprints, and supporting technical and field execution to guarantee seamless integration between civil, architectural, electrical, and mechanical (MEP) aspects within the project scope.
Services Provided in the Project
- Industrial Color Coding for FacilitiesApplying international engineering standards to visually classify and identify pipes and equipment, thereby boosting maintenance and operational efficiency while minimizing human error.
- Technical Coordination and Factory Data Governance (Factory Integration)Conducting intensive coordination sessions with plant operations engineers to audit and inspect pipe contents and valves before installing the finalized visual identity system.
- Site Preparation for Digital Scanning (3D Scan Preparation)Preparing the mechanical infrastructure and fixed plant assets, and highlighting their profiles to ensure subsequent laser scanning outputs and point clouds achieve maximum accuracy and clarity.
- Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Management in Critical Environments (HSE Management)Securing the field work environment while handling hazardous gas lines, volatile chemicals, and extreme elevations in compliance with the Kingdom's approved safety codes.
